Basic Definition and Function of Automotive Radiators
2026-02-25
The automotive radiator is the core heat-exchange component of a liquid-cooled engine cooling system, installed behind the vehicle’s front grille. Its primary function is to cool the high-temperature coolant—after it has absorbed heat from the engine—by exchanging heat with the oncoming airflow or the forced air from the fan. This ensures that the engine consistently operates at its optimal temperature range of 85–95°C, preventing overheating and associated issues such as cylinder scoring and power loss.
